Things are getting really busy around here!!! We're ironing, sewing, polishing, packing, packing, packing, writing lists, checking things off lists, cooking, more packing, organizing, and picking up things at the store for our first Civil War reenactment of the year!!!

I can hardly wait....

I wanted to share a few pictures of a project I did with Dad the night before Easter!
We put bead board under our kitchen bar/counter area! I'm really excited with how it turned out!
These pictures are before we stained it with Water Lox.

Polishing Silver

I really enjoy polishing silver, for a few reasons...
First, because this was my grandmother's silver and it's special for me to be polishing something that was her's.
I also enjoy it becuase it's kind of like a treasure hunt! It's very rewarding to see what some elbow grease (and silver polish, of course) can do to make something so dull and grimey turn into something so gorgeous and pretty for everyone to enjoy!
Coffee just somehow tastes a little better coming out of this...

Breakfast Surprise!

Yumm! :o) I made "Breakfast Surprise" last Saturday. I just had to snap a shot of it as it was coming out of the oven!

After much interest in this lovely, delicious breakfast I am posting the recipe below:

Breakfast Surprise

Preheat oven to 400

1/2 c. butter

2-3 apples, sliced

1 and 1/2 c. milk

1 c. flour

6 eggs

1/2 tsp. vanilla

1 and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

3 Tbl. sugar

Instructions:

Melt butter in 9"x13" pan in oven until it sizzles; add sliced apples- watch so they don't burn-bake quickly. (check after 10 min.) Stir together rest of ingredients (only 1/2 tsp. of the cinnamon). Pour over baked apples and bake 30 (or so) min.

Sprinkle the cinnamon on top and drizzle honey or syrup if desired. We sprinkle with the juice of a lemon and powdered sugar! Serve immediately~enjoy!

Our Christmas Tree!

We planted 50 Noble Fir trees on our
property roughly 6 or 7 years ago.
This year we cut down our first
home-grown tree! It is over 10 feet tall!!!

The Story of a Fallen Saint

All was well early on the morning of December 13th, St. Lucia Day. The cinnamon rolls rose wonderfully and came out bubbling and golden brown, perfect! The hot cocoa didn't burn and there were plenty of mini-marshmallows to top the children's cocoa. All the batteries in my "candles" were working and I even found a red ribbon to wear! On my way downstairs to the boys' bedroom I tripped on the second to the last stair but recovered nicely and didn't loose the tray of goodies.
On my way upstairs to visit my littlest sister I tripped again , only this time as I was almost to the top...I lost everything! Cocoa was dripping down the stairs and all over me. I was alright and walked away with just a bruised shin. (Those wooden stairs are sharp!) Everyone was so sympathetic they even brought me breakfast in bed the next morning! Ben (7) really liked the idea, so the next morning he decided to get up bright (I should say dark!) and early and cooked all of us eggs! His service comes a little earlier than I'd like on a weekend...I happened to glance at the clock while turing over and it was 5:45a.m.
